EMERGENCIES - OUT OF HOURS COVER

All emergencies out of hours will be handled by NHS24. To obtain this service please telephone

In the case of a life-threatening problem we advise you to always dial 999 for an ambulance. Whenever possible, we will back up the ambulance response with the provision of a GP.

Whenever possible, an immediate care trained GP is available to attend serious incidents such as road traffic accidents and major incidents at the request of the Scottish Ambulance Service. We operate this service as part of SHERPA (The Scottish Highlands Emergency ResPonse Association). Dr Mike Langran is an instructor in immediate care and major incident management and will usually be one of the GPs attending incidents when he is available.

This service is provided in conjunction with BASICS Scotland and is jointly funded by our local CHP as an enhanced service and some aspects of our equipment are funded generously by the Sandpiper Trust.

Since we began operating our new scheme in September 2006, we have responded to more than 150 calls including several potential and actual major incidents. The latest of these was the Culloden Court Nursing Home fire on 18th October 2010 when Dr Langran acted as the Medical Incident Officer.
